James Tyler ha iniziato a costruire chitarre su richiesta e a fare riparazioni nei primi anni 1970. La sua reputazione è cresciuta con il passaparola tra la fine del 1980 e l’inizio del 1990, quando molti dei migliori musicisti e session man di Los Angeles ne fecero il loro liutaio di fiducia. James ascoltava le loro richieste, i loro suggerimenti, sperimentava e li migliorava. Oggi, le sue chitarre sono costruite utilizzando la tecnologia state-of-the-art delle macchine computerizzate fresatrici, dei laser, delle stazioni di modellazione 3D e di ingegneria aerospaziale, al fine di garantire la massima qualità e precisione in ogni lavorazione.
Oltre a costruire strumenti perfetti, James ha cominciato a proporre per gioco delle colorazioni particolari come il ”Psichedelic vomit”, lo “Shmear” e il “Burning Water”. Quella che vediamo è una Studio Elite Red Shmear non più in produzione: fa parte di una serie di strumenti totalmente ispirati agli artisti della action painting americana. A suo tempo la feci costruire apposta ordinandola a GBL di Milano, che non tralascia mai di mostrarti le ultime novità al top di sonorità, qualità e stile di liuteria. Per un po’, James Tyler ha quasi smesso di produrre, a causa della diagnosi di un tumore al cervello. Felicemente operato, è tornato alla testa della sua piccola squadra di 4 collaboratori rilanciando alla grande il suo laboratorio.

James Tyler has started building guitars to order and making repairs in the early 1970s. In the ’90s his reputation grew by word of mouth, when many of the best Los Angeles musicians and session men made him their go-to luthier. James listened to their requests and suggestions, experimented and improved on them. Today his guitars are constructed using state-of-the-art computerized milling machines, lasers, 3D modeling stations and aerospace engineering, in order to ensure the highest quality and precision in every process. In addition to building the perfect instruments, James jokingly began to offer a variety of special colors such as “Psychedelic vomit”, “Shmear” and “Burning Water”.
What we see here is an out-of-production Studio Elite Red Shmear: it is part of a series of instruments totally inspired to American action painting artists. I had it made to order by submitting a request via GBL Milan, where they always display the latest news at the top of sound, quality and style. James Tyler had to stop working for a while due to a brain tumor diagnosis. After a successful surgery, he went back to leading his small workshop and 4 artisans, relaunching his brand.
